JAZZ at Fourcroft – The Dukes and The Duchess – 26th February


The Dukes and the Duchess aim to create an original sound, using the seminal melodies of the legendary composer Duke Ellington. The nine-piece line-up is one that Ellington used for his “little big band sound”.

Most of the arrangements are penned by saxophonist and chief arranger Rob Marks who, like Ellington, writes for the individual musicians in the band. Under the leadership of Jim Luxton, some of the most experienced jazz musicians in Wales appear in this line-up,  beautifully assisted with the vocals of Sarah Benbow.

 

JAZZ at Fourcroft – The Dave Cottle / Gary Phillips Trio – 29th January


What can one say about this trio from Swansea heaven?

Dave is the keyboard wizard behind Swansea Jazzland and the Dave Cottle Trio, playing for two decades plus.

Gary is the guitar genius behind not only the Gary Phillips Trio but also The Amigos, gypsy jazz champions of West Wales.

Paul Smith has, quite simply, been playing drums for ever.

A jazz pedigree unsurpassed is coming this way so catch this concert!

A return for this silky band  with their Cafe de Paris gypsy jazz music.

They are Susanna Warrenclarinet & lead vocals, Jeremy Younglead guitar, Andy Kingrhythm guitar & vocals & Andy ‘Wal’ Coughlandouble bass & vocals.

A welcome return for Dom’s band.

Playing with Dom (sax) are John Davies (guitar), Nino Consolo (drums) & Steve Tarner (double bass). The band will also feature the sultry, swinging vocals of Elaina Hoss.

JAZZ at Fourcroft – Lady Sings The Blues – 24th July


Kitty Bevan is joined by an all star cast of jazz musicians for her tribute to the late great Billie Holiday.

The performance includes songs written for, by, and about Billie.

The musicians include Greg Evans (drums), Don Sweeney (bass), Rob Haddon (guitar) and Jim Barber (keys).

Cafe Jazz play their jazz Dixieland style, with Ron King (trumpet & harmonica), Peter Berry (string bass), Peter Locke (trombone), Jeff Matthews (clarinet) and Tudor Thomas (banjo & guitar).

Solid jazz music, from some of the finest jazz musicians from mid, south and west Wales and Bristol. ‘Feel good’ Sunday music for the toe tappers. Maybe a Father’s Day present too ….

JAZZ at Fourcroft – CLARE HINGOTT & THE GRAHAM WATKINS JAZZ TRIO – 22nd May


Heading GW3 Jazz is Graham Watkins with 40 years experience as a Jazz pianist & arranger, Jack Williams on bass guitar and George Wilson on drums. This concert features the young and talented Clare Hingott on vocals.

With a repertoire of well over 300 Jazz and Swing standards from the likes of Nat King Cole, The Rat Pack, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and many more besides, this concert will have something to suit all tastes.

JAZZ at Fourcroft – HOT CLUB GALLOIS – 24th April


Hot Club Gallois are a Welsh group inspired by the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Their music evokes the style and elegance of 1930’s Paris and draws on the passion and romance of the gypsy Jazz tradition.

Their repertoire includes classic Jazz standards, profound ballads, swaying bossas and traditional gypsy waltzes and boleros.

You might have heard of them as The John Scantlebury Quartet  or Scantlebury Munnery or even another name.

Whatever the band’s name, the players are John Scantlebury, Paul Munnery, Sarah Thatcher and Mike Kennedy and they bring a wealth of jazz experience to recreate some of the best sounds of New Orleans Jazz
