JAZZ at Fourcroft – Madi Stimpson Trio

The Madi Stimpson Trio are Madi (guitars and vocals), Alan Mason and Simon Smith.

They play a mix of gypsy, jazz, bluegrass and folk roots, but with a definite emphasis on the manouche sound pioneered and made famous by the great Django Reinhardt. They have played from the streets of Birmingham, for private parties and in small pubs, to more prestigious events such as Brecon and Cheltenham Jazz Festivals.

An interesting, endearing and at times eclectic range of music awaits …………

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), commonly referred to as simply Birdman, is a 2014 American black comedydrama film co-written, produced, and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. It stars Michael Keaton with a supporting cast of Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts. The story follows Riggan Thomson (Keaton), a faded Hollywood actor famous for his role as superhero Birdman, as he struggles to mount a Broadway adaptation of a short story by Raymond Carver.

The film garnered wide critical praise, and won the Academy Award for Best Picture, along with the Best Director for González Iñárritu, the Best Original Screenplay, and the Best Cinematography from a total of nine nominationsat the 87th Oscars in 2014.

The Hundred-Foot Journey is a 2014 American comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallström from a screenplay written by Steven Knight, adapted from Richard Morais’ 2010 novel with the same name. The film stars Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon and tells the story of a feud between two adjacent restaurants in a French town: one operated by a recently relocated Indian family and the other a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey for DreamWorks Pictures through their respective production companies, Amblin Entertainment and Harpo Films, in association withParticipant Media and Image Nation, it was released by Touchstone Pictures on August 8, 2014.

’71 is a 2014 British historical action film set in Northern Ireland written by Gregory Burke and directed by Yann Demange. It starsJack O’Connell, Sean Harris, David Wilmot, Richard Dormer,Paul Anderson, and Charlie Murphy, and tells the story of a British soldier who becomes separated from his unit during a riot in Belfast at the height of the Troubles in 1971.

Next feature – The Imitation Game – 4th May

The Imitation Game is a 2014 historical thriller film directed by Morten Tyldum, with a screenplay by Graham Moore loosely based on the biography Alan Turing: The Enigma byAndrew Hodges. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the British cryptanalyst Alan Turing, who helped solve the Enigma code during the Second World War and was later prosecuted for homosexuality.

The film was multi-award nominated, but only came away with Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2015 Oscars. It also stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance and Mark Strong.

Kitty’s Trio perform a delightful mix of music, from sultry ballads to sassy swing, featuring classic songs from the American songbook plus some Kitty originals.

The band features Kitty (Beverley Gough) on vocals and sax, Don Sweeney on double bass and guitarist Rob Haddon.
